Original Work, Inspired By

People ask us for characters constantly. Here is exactly what we do, and what we do not, without the vagueness this subject usually attracts.

Send a reference, a rough idea, or a photograph. We will tell you honestly whether it will cast well.

The honest position on this

Every piece we make is an original, independently created work of expressive art. Our designs are artistic interpretations inspired by mythology, history, pop culture and customer requests. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or licensed by any brand, studio, publisher, game developer or trademark owner, and nothing we make should be understood as claiming otherwise.

What that means in practice

  • Mythological and historical subjects — dragons, gods, creatures — are open ground.
  • Original characters of your own design are ideal and entirely straightforward.
  • Where a name or likeness is referenced, it is descriptive, artistic and transformative.
  • Our pieces are collectible works of original art, never official merchandise.
  • Trademarks, logos and character names remain the property of their owners.

Original work, and where the line sits

Everything produced here is an original, independently created work of expressive art. That is not a disclaimer bolted on afterwards — it describes what is actually made. A piece inspired by a genre, a era, an archetype or a theme is original work. A direct three-dimensional reproduction of somebody else's protected character is not, and it is not something we produce.

In practice that distinction is less limiting than it sounds and the conversation is worth having early. Most people arriving with this kind of brief want the feeling of a thing rather than a copy of it, and that is entirely achievable as original work. Where a brief cannot be met that way, we will say so at the outset rather than take a deposit and raise it later.

How we handle it

  1. 01Talk through what you want and where the line sits, openly.
  2. 02Sculpt an original interpretation rather than a copy.
  3. 03Show you the sculpt before casting.
  4. 04Cast in .999 fine silver, hand-finished, X-ray verified.
  5. 05Retire the design.

The commissions that go best here are original characters — someone's own tabletop character, a family crest, a creature they invented. There is no ambiguity, the design is genuinely theirs, and the one-of-one claim means exactly what it says.

Said plainly

Where we stop

Rights holders with questions or concerns may contact us and we respond promptly and in good faith. If you are asking for something we do not think we should make, we will say so rather than take the order and hope.

FAQ

Common questions

Can you make an official licensed piece?
No. We are not licensed by anyone and we do not claim to be. Everything we make is original expressive art.
What about my own original character?
Ideal, and the most straightforward commission of all. It is genuinely yours.
Dragons and mythology?
Open ground and among our favorite work.
Who owns the design afterwards?
The physical piece is yours. Talk to us about the design if that matters to you — we will be clear rather than vague.
